1 – A note on conference papers in the field of human-computer interaction
In contrast to journal-centric fields, the premiere human-computer interaction conferences (e.g., CHI, CSCW) are heavily refereed and highly selective venues for top archival research. These conferences exceed many human-computer interaction journals in their selectivity, visibility, and impact. For a study of the impact of ACM conference proceedings, see J Chen and JA Konstan, Conference paper selectivity and impact, Communications of the ACM53, 6 (June 2010), 79-83. Starting around 2016, however, many of these conferences (e.g., Ubicomp, CSCW) began a transition to publishing as journals.
